Liberty Lady

Lady Liberty on Route 66

Lady Liberty Inn

What things do you think of when you think of the good ole’ U.S. of A.? Maybe you think of the long highways, or you think of specific monuments. Route 66 is known as the mother road of the United States. There are many one-of-kind attractions along the highway that you shouldn’t miss. Similarly, the Statue of Liberty has been the country’s most well known symbol of freedom. She is not just a monument, she is a friend and a living symbol of independence. This statue stands at the harbor entrance of the country, holding a torch of light to guide ships. Our Lady Liberty holds a Route 66 globe. So where can you find both Great Lady Liberty and the charm of Route 66? Look no further than Desert Inn!

Lady Liberty Writing Contest

Honoring our Veterans and Law Enforcement through the written word.

It is imperative that children learn about the history of the country in which they reside, but also to grow up with the knowledge that they have the freedom, or liberty, to express themselves in words. Last week, the entire student body of the Tucumcari Middle School had the opportunity to submit entries to the Second Annual Lady Liberty Writing Contest. One hundred and thirty-eight students wrote letters, containing three paragraphs, declaring what the Statue of Liberty stands for, what it means to them.

How we honor the Veterans of this country by celebrating their courage, bravery, and invaluable service. In addition to writing about Lady Liberty and Veteran’s Day, the students were asked to include why they thought law enforcement is important. Deputy Chief Pete Rivera and officers of the Tucumcari Police Department were given the opportunity to read the entries and determine the winners of the contest.

This is the second literacy program organized by The Desert Inn, which students of the community have participated in this year. Thanks to Ron Carmichael and crew at Tucumcari Sonic Drive-In for their generous contribution to this event.
